Run For Terence (RFT)

Our running friend, triathlete, duathlete, commando ultrarunner,
Terence (Penguin-6) has been diagnosed with brain tumour.
With his wife not working and his own job is at stake,
whatever assistance and support we extend to him will be useful.
Runners are known as a supportive and positive bunch.
It's time to come forward to help a fellow sportsman in need.
Treatment for tumours are often expensive and debilitating.
The patient will also be weakened substantially by all the drugs.
Besides resting and taking proper food, it's also beneficial to
take food supplements such as antioxidants.
All these require money.
To show our support for him, Der_Pacemakers <http://pm1.blogspot.com//>
and friends are organizing a run in his honour,
after which we'll be passing the hat around to collect some contribution for him.
You can also pen down messages for him in a book.
As this is a non-competitive run, please bring your own refreshments.
Typical of Terence's care-free attitude, you can run any number of laps you want.

Date : Saturday Feb 4th
Time : 8am
Venue : KLCC Park, the large space between the carpark and the mosque

Please turn up to support him and spread the word around.

hcny!

> happy chinese new year!
> live it up!
> eat up!
> drink up!
> hopefully its up to
> do the doggy style!

weekend

did not go for the 20k race
on sat follow-up with the doc
he gave pms18 another week off to rest

watched all-england badminton sat nite
semi-finals men singles
lee chong wei (malaysia) against lin dan (china)
lcw played wonderfully
the 3rd game (rubber set) lcw was leading 8-1
he even got to reach point 14 first
unfortunately in the end lcw loss 14-17

i admire lcw maturity
he was so cool
no tantrums
no looking at the racquet when something when wrong
no loud shouts when he made the most fantastic shots

when the game was over
he even clapped as though he won
and i think he did 'win'
i guess its like something i read in a running book
a good run is knowing that i could not have run any better on that given day

after sunday breakfast
jaden developed a rash
it spread like bush fire
we quickly rush to gleneagles emergency
but was told by the rude staff that there is a long queue
how can emergency have a long queue?
we quickly rush to ampang puteri hospital
doc said he was ok
do not know the cause
gave a jab to reduce the itchiness
he is ok now

bad week

no running at all
pms18 was admitted due to severe back pain
the mri indicates that there are 3 disc not properly aligned
causing the pressure on the nerve thus excruciating pain
pms18 walks hunch shape like a boomerang
yeah its that bad
pms18 will do physio & also take medication for a while

meanwhile i loss our condo access card and
was told to pay rm150 for a replacement!
i refuse to pay as i feel the amt is too much
appreciate if anyone can provide feedback on their
condo access card replacement amt
i intend to write to the mgt quoting the amt in other condos

i received sms saying that penguin6 have brain cancer
totally shocked
i hv yet to reply the sms, probably won't
i do not know what to say

if the rest of the week continues like this
most probably i will not run the 20k this sunday
if i do its dedicated to a speedy recovery for pms18 & p6

wise words

"Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent." -- Marilyn vos Savant

running in the rain

if u can't beat them join them
in this case i m referring to the rain
its been raining here (klcc area) most evenings
i have not run in the rain for some time
left office on the dot
joined pm33 n pm37
after the 1st lap the rain got heavier
pm33 was done for the day
luckily pm37 said he will run a few more laps
pm37 is restricted by time (7pm) not laps
at least i will not be the only "crazy" fella running in the heavy rain
pm37 was running relaxed
pant pant i was trying to keep up
i observe n realize his leg turnover was faster
another good thing is pm37 have unlimited supplies of giggles and laughs
after 4 laps we call it a day
thanks to pm37 for the company

Sudden Cardiac Death

i m posting this bcoz this caring person wanted to share the following.
i have however ommitted some contents to keep the message shorter.
Chun Chen is a healthy 17 years old boy and a strong cyclist. Due to SPM preparations, he stops cycling for six months. That night is his second ride after the exam. He was training enthusiastically to reduce his slightly over weighted body. That day he went for gym workout, jogging and later join MRCC for night ride. During the ride, he was pushing hard to keep up with some strong cyclists. Out of the sudden, he collapsed and never wakes up ever since. Yesterday we received a call from the police department saying that his death was due some sort of cardiac (heart) problem from autopsy reports.
Chun Chen is a great guy. He is a MRCC regular cyclist, a great protégé and good friend of mine. It's a great lost to the club and to his family. He's the eldest son with another brother few years younger. Some of you may know him where he always joins us for night ride, Sunday ride and 2004 Fraser's Hill cycling trip.
I never take it seriously until now. By searching the net, it's horrified to know that 1 out of 200,000 healthy sportsperson deceased due to "hypertrophic cardiomyopathy". Do spend sometime browsing the followings:
<http://www.physsportsmed.com/issues/2002/01_02/maron.htm>
<http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/cardiomyopathy/sudden_cardiac_death.htm>
My messages to everyone are:
1. Be healthy to enjoy sports and NOT pushing sports to stay healthy
2. Spend RM200 or less to learn CPR, it's an invaluable skill. CPR does not confirm you can save a life, but at least there is a hope before it's too late. (I felt really bad that I did not join the ride, I'm a trained CPR and First-aid)
3. No one knows the future, appreciate your love ones and spend more time with them
4. Stay healthy, happy and enjoy life to the fullness, live is too short to be waste
I know it's not good news for the New Year; I just want to share all my messages.
Regards,
Richard Tang
p.s Do share this email to any sportsperson that you know.

escape from alcatraz

no running yesterday

send bryan to kindergarten this morning
this is his 2nd year
the atmosphere was the same as last year
could hear the cries of many "prisoners"
it sounded like the prisoners were tortured
the prisoners just wanted to go home
all exits were shut tight
there was no escape

some parents were playing commando
the parent would hide n zero in at the subject
get a visual, eavesdrop, study behaviour etc etc
the only setback is that the commando is not
here to retrieve the subject, not yet

some parents looked worried n frown like a bullmastiff
some parents were cool like a cucumber
i could sense these were the proud parents of non-crying prisoners
in the end the prisoners can only be saved by the bell
but then...the next day...they are send to prison...again n again...

singing is good for u

as mentioned b4 bryan is into bon jovi songs
i thought it would be a good idea to encourage him
so i dug out the "cross road" cd that i have put aside for a long time
bryan was pleasantly surprised and scanned thru the cd songs
after a while we noticed that bryan will select 1 particular song
and this will be his favouraite for sometime before switching
the thing is, the repeated playing of the same song is
driving my wife and i up the wall
the moment he gets into the car
he will put on the cd n play the same song
we will hear the same song like at least 6 times a day
and there is no escape, we are in the car!
n most of the time he likes to turn up the volume
we have been listening to bon jovi for more than 2 months

2005 last run

12 laps klcc dec 30
my only run for the week
pm1 was also there
did not join pm1, he is too fast for me
